Donaldson counts on 22-strong Girlz squad for crucial Canada clash
Olympic qualification and avoiding qualifiers for the inaugural Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup are top of the agenda for Lorne Donaldson’s Reggae Girlz in a matter of two weeks.
Riding on a wave of hope and pride from their performances at the Women’s World Cup in France a little over a month ago, the Reggae Girlz now turn their attention to a home-and-away tie against Canada, the winners of which will join the United States at the Olympic Games.
On top of that, the winners will also head directly into the Gold Cup, scheduled for the United States early next year.
The losers will be forced to play in a qualification round that also includes Panama and Guatemala.
The qualifiers, a home-and-away tie, will run from October 25 to December 3.
Donaldson has already named the 22-player squad ahead of the tie, with the first game at the National Stadium in Jamaica on September 22.
The corresponding fixture in Canada takes place at the BMO Stadium in Toronto, Canada on September 26.
The squad will assemble in Jamaica on September 19.
Tickets for all the games can be purchased at: www.caribtix.com or www.jff.football.
The list of 22 features the usual suspects, with the centre back pairing of Allyson and Chantelle Swaby back on board, along with Deneisha Blackwood, Tierny Wiltshire and Tiffany Cameron, combinations of which let in just one goal throughout a World Cup run that ended at the quarter-final stage with a 1-0 loss to Colombia.
Goalkeepers Rebecca Spencer and Syndey Schneider are also back in the fold, in a team that will continue to be led by Ballon d’Or nominee Khadija Shaw.
