Gilbert names 23-woman squad ahead of Gold Cup qualifiers
Jamaica's head coach, Xavier Gilbert, has picked a squad of 23 players ahead of the Reggae Girlz Gold Cup qualification fixtures against Panama and Guatemala.
The Reggae Girlz are down to play against Panama on October 25 in Panama, before returning for a home fixture against Guatemala on the 29th.
The team is missing notable names like Rebecca Spencer and Sydney Schneider, as well as defensive rocks Allyson and Chantelle Swaby. Tiffany Cameron and Deneisha Blackwood are also absent.
Tallismanic captain, Khadija Shaw, as well as attacking options Trudi Carter and Jody Brown are also out.
The Gold Cup qualification games lie outside of the women’s international window and so has impacted the number of international stars the coach has at its disposal.
There have also been allegations that a number of players have declined invitations on account of grouses with the Jamaica Football Federation over uncertainty surrounding the plans for a coach and owed payments.
