Yellowstone takes no prisoners
YELLOWSTONE REPORTED in a mean mood off a five-month break, needing only last-furlong reminders by Oshane Nugent to easily land yesterday’s five-furlong straight Security Department Trophy race for overnight-allowance runners.
Down in class on a get-out-of-jail card allowed by the conditions book, having last won an overnight-allowance event on June 4 last year, YELLOWSTONE, arguably one of the most improved horses in 2023, proved he belongs in the higher grade, open allowance, where he had placed third behind PERFECT BREW on August 1.
Making topweight 126lb appear as though he was lowest at the scale, YELLOWSTONE easily led flyweight A GIFT FROM BEN from their respective high-number post positions with the track bias already in their favour.
Exiting the chute clear of A GIFT FROM BEN, 9-5 chance YELLOWSTONE left old rival GOD OF LOVE toiling among a posse of horses, seven across the track a furlong out, before Nugent reminded the Sensational Slam-Awry speedster he was in an actual race.
Stayer RHYTHM BUZZ surprisingly out finished LABAN for second at long odds of 30-1, a neck separating the runners-up while YELLOWSTONE raced home in 59.2.
Tevin Foster rode a two-timer, his fifth winner in two meets, following his New Year’s Day triple, maintaining his lead atop the riders’ standings.
Runner-up to Reyan Lewis last season, Foster made all with CHITU PRINCE at 1000 metres straight in the fifth event for $250,000 claimers.
Foster closed his tally with MILOS, who slipped through along the rail early in the stretch run, going past battling leaders LEGIT BOSS and MONEY MARKET, before denying ACKNOWLEDGEME’s challenge.
The new season of racing continues in January with consecutive Saturday-Sunday meets.
