MPowa, WATA pumps millions into JWPL development
MPowa and WATA have continued to invest in, and put their support behind, sport and sports development.
The Wisynco Group brands’ most recent support comes in the form of a $1.5-million cash and product sponsorship of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL).
MPowa provided $1 million in combined cash and product support, while WATA contributed $500,000. Other Wisynco brands, Powerade and TruShake, also provided sponsorship support, bringing the combined sponsorship support to over $2.5 million. In total, more than 700 cases of products were committed to support the teams and league operations.
“Supporting the Jamaica Women’s Premier League was a natural alignment for our brands. The portfolio of brands – MPowa, WATA, Powerade and TruShake – that have joined forces for this partnership are major proponents of sport development. We believe in the unifying power of football and its widespread benefits, and [the] role it plays in the broader community and national ecosystem,” said Chevon Lewis, brand manager, MPowa portfolio, Wisynco Group Limited.
“Wisynco’s brands have maintained a consistent presence in Jamaican football for years; from the high-school level through the national level, the company’s investment and support for football is unwavering.”
Christina Hudson, chairperson of Professional Women’s Football Jamaica Limited, said corporate support remains essential to the league’s continued progress.
“Support from corporate partners like Wisynco is critical to the continued growth of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League. Investments like these help us strengthen the professionalism of the competition, and continue expanding opportunities for Jamaican women in football,” said Hudson, chairperson of Professional Women’s Football Jamaica Limited.
The Jamaica Women’s Premier League continues to build structure around women’s football locally, with the competition featuring 12 clubs this season, as organisers work to strengthen the league’s commercial base and competitive standards, while creating greater visibility for female footballers.
