Lucea seniors get tablet training

The Hanover Parish Library officially started its tablet computer training programme for senior citizens last week Thursday in Lucea.

The programme is being led by parish librarian Marvetta Stewart, aided by her information

technology staff at the library. It was kick-started following the donation of six Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 tablet computers by Hanover Charities, the charitable arm of the Round Hill Hotel.

"The programme is geared towards seniors, to bring them up to speed with the technology. Some already have tablets, but do not know how to use them effectively," Stewart told Western Focus.

"The participants are being introduced to social media, how to use the camera, downloading of files, accessing online news, email accounts as well as some basic computer skills. The same tablets will be used in a teen tech programme, which will be available soon to our teenagers," Stewart said.

One of the seniors, Melzena Anderson, told Western Focus that she learnt about the training when it was announced at her church recently.

"I have a tablet, but I have no clue how to use it, so this is one of the reasons I am here - to learn how to use it. It's very interesting. I hope I will achieve something before the programme ends," Anderson said.
