Mixed results for Jamaicans

MELBOURNE, Australia (CMC):

It was another weekend of mixed results for the teams that include Jamaicans in the ANZ Championship.

Sunshine Girls goal shooter, Carla Williams-Borrego, continued her dominant form under the hoop to score 29 goals from 38 attempts. But the Adelaide Thunderbirds had their four-game winning streak broken in decisive fashion when New South Wales Swift zoomed past them 60-44 in the eighth round of matches.

At the same time, athletic Jamaican defender, Althea Byfield, was rock-solid with two rebounds, an interception and eight deflections, as she helped to keep the Northern Mystics' top-four dream alive with a 52-49 victory over the Southern Steel.

The two results leave the teams with the Jamaicans in a four-way tussle for fourth place, with the T-birds, the Queensland Firebirds (whose line-up includes another Sunshine Girl, Romelda Aiken), the Steel and the Mystics all vying for supremacy.

All three Jamaicans will be on court this coming weekend.
