Youngsters chase glory at Kwise Central Champs

The third staging of the Kwise Central Jamaica Preparatory and Primary Schools Track and Field Championships will be held today at G.C. Foster College in St Catherine, starting at 8:30 a.m.
More than 400 athletes are down to compete in the championships from 11 primary and two prep schools.
Angels Primary from St Catherine are defending champions.
Wakefield Primary from Trelawny, Rest Primary from Clarendon and United Learning Centre from St Ann are some of the schools that will be taking part at the meet.
The athletes will compete in the 100m, 150m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m running events, along with the long and high jumps.
Karmal Thompson, organiser of the meet, is expecting an exciting championships.
"We are expecting a good turnout because we will be having schools that are coming with a lot of supporters and they are drawn from across the island," said Thompson.
"This is a well-organised meet with good support from the sponsors and the patrons of the team," he said.
"I am also very happy that teams from several other parishes will be competing at this meet, and this goes to show that track and field is very much alive in Jamaica."
Fast-food chain Mother's, RJR Group, Breads and More Docutech are the sponsors.
