Juniors schooled in Parkins' tribute game
University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona School of Business (MSB) Class of 2009 'schooled' a combined group of current students at Sunday's Football Frenzy at the Mona Bowl. The game ended 3-1.
The 4 p.m. match was in tribute to the late Kevin 'Teddy' Parkins, who died recently at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Parkins graduated in November 2009 (Cohort 11).
Quite fittingly, Damion Facey, Parkins' best friend, scored two goals in his honour.
"I definitely wanted to score a goal for my friend," said Facey. "And I ended up with two. It is truly an awesome feeling for a true friend."
Ryan Deans completed the rout for Cohort 11. Damion Reid scored the lone goal for the combined team.
Drew first blood
However, it was the Michael Bradshaw-led combined team - Cohorts 12 and 13 - that drew first blood with a brilliant build-up which reaped instant dividend.
However, their celebrations were cut short by waves of attacks from Cohort 11, which left them gasping for breath.
"It was a physically challenging match for us," said Bradshaw. "However, it was well-played and in good spirits."
The funeral for Kevin Parkins is scheduled for Saturday at the Fellowship Tabernacle Church at 10 a.m.`
