Gordon, Francis suspended
Jockey Paul 'Country' Francis, who returns to the saddle tomorrow following a three-day suspension, will be back on the sidelines on St Leger Day, Saturday, July 10.
On Tuesday, the stewards imposed a one-day suspension on the title-chasing jockey for improper riding aboard HE'S A DREAMER in the eighth race at Caymanas Park on Saturday, June 19.
Francis was penalised for causing interference to SEEK GOLD in the vicinity of the 300-metre point. His suspension will take effect next Saturday.
In other disciplinary actions arising from inquiries held at the Winchester Road offices of the JRC on Tuesday, top apprentice Doushane Gordon will also miss the RJR St Leger meet. He was slapped with a two-day suspension by the stewards for careless riding aboard the disqualified favourite GO FLINT GO in the 13th and final race on June 19 (Derby Day).
Interference
GO FLINT GO caused interference to MISTER INFORMATION leaving the half mile and was moved from second to last place. Gordon's suspension also takes effect next Saturday.
At the same hearing, Gordon was also severely cautioned by the stewards for drifting out his mount, GUAN YU, in the last 300 metres of the seventh race for the Valbert Marlowe Memorial Cup last Saturday, won by RUNNING LOOSE.
In that race, the winning rider, apprentice Richard Cole, was severely cautioned as well, this for causing interference to the favourite ESQUIRE when getting into top gear aboard RUNNING LOOSE over the last 300 metres.
Veteran jockey David 'Scorcher' McKenzie, who rode MY BREDREN in the fifth race on Saturday, June 12, was suspended for two race days for causing multiple interference to DEFINITELY SWEET, BIG DIVA, PLEASANT PRINCESS, ALEX'S SONG and the winner BELOW THE WAIST approaching the 1100-metre point. His suspension commences tomorrow.
