Young karters for US meet

After months of intense preparation, the skills of Jamaica's young go-karters will be tested next week at the US Grand National Finals in Indiana. Five Jamaicans are expected to be in action.

President of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club Errol Anderson believes the group is a talented lot and must bring their 'A' game to the meet.

"We must remember one thing, our youngsters are going up against people who are super prepared. Those other karters are more exposed, have been racing more competitively and more frequently at the highest level than we have been," said Anderson.

The Jamaican contingent comprises Red Bull athlete Collin Daley Jr; the Spanish Court Hotel-sponsored Thomas Issa; Jamaica Fibre Glass karters Justin and Joshua Sirgany; and Restaurant of Jamaica-sponsored William Myers.

The group was scheduled to leave the island Friday morning accompanied by their respective coaches and Jamaica Karting Association president Peter Rae.

"We decided to leave a little earlier because the New Castle Motorsports track will be opened between Saturday and Tuesday and we need to get in some practice," said Rae prior to the group's departure.
