Despite rain, Jamaica grab first innings points
GROS ISLET, St Lucia (CMC):
Jamaica had to settle for first innings points against Guyana as their TCL West Indies Under-19 second-round Challenge match ended in a draw, after rain wrecked the final day here yesterday.
Rain prevented any play until 2:15 p.m. at the Gros Islet playing field, but Jamaica managed to wrap up Guyana's first innings for 200, in response to their mammoth first innings of 380.
Jamaica were 28 for one in reply when play was eventually called off. The defending champions took six points from the encounter, while Guyana finished with three.
Resuming at their overnight 136 for seven, Guyana crawled to 168 for eight at the tea break which was taken at 3:10 p.m.
Any thoughts of a hasty end to the innings perished, however, as Amir Khan (9) and Quamie Crosse staged a stubborn ninth wicket partnership of 59.
Crosse, in particular, was impressive as he stroked an undefeated 88, which spanned 173 balls and 219 minutes and included 10 fours and a six.
Khan became leg-spinner Donovan Nelson's fifth wicket when he was trapped leg before wicket at 199 for nine, after resisting for 74 minutes and 80 balls. Crosse was then left stranded, as last man Keon Joseph was run out one run later.
Nelson finished with five for 69 and Nicholson Gordon bagged two for 34.
