Hockey squads depart for CAC Games

Jamaica's men's and women's hockey teams are now in Puerto Rico preparing for the start of the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games.

The Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) has selected 16 male players to represent the island. The captain is Kishawn Smith and the other members of the Games squad are Donovan Shakespeare (goalkeeper and vice captain), Nicholas Beach, Brian Brodber, David East, George McGlashan, Kemar Mitchell, Niijon Sandford (goalkeeper), Michael McClarty, Charles Burton, Duvaughn Henlon, Giovani Gordon, Richard Brown, Andre Gardner, Marlon Jackson and new cap Oshane Hasely.

Heading the team

Aubyn Ferguson is head coach and he will be assisted by Richard Wisdom. Nicholas Brown is the team manager while Richard Shaw, JHF vice-president, is head of the delegation which left yesterday. The members of the female hockey team departed on Friday while the men left yesterday.

Jamaica's men are drawn in Pool B alongside Mexico, Dominican Republic and Netherland Antilles. They play their first game against the last-named country at 11 a.m. on July 23.

The female team plays their opening match against Puerto Rico at 5 p.m. on July 22.
