Subaru Tribeca - An SUV for all seasons
Last Saturday's heavy rains failed to put a damper on KIG's launch of its 2010 Subaru Tribeca.
"Whether rain or shine ... on or off roads conditions, the new Tribeca provides all-weather capability," said Dawn Green, public relations and marketing executive at the Spanish Town Road-based dealership.
Green said the standard Vehicle Dynamics Control - which is outfitted in each unit - has sensors that can determine the driver's intended path and, in the event of a slide, applies individual brakes and/or reduces engine power to help you stay on course.
"In addition, the Tribeca's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive Control aids the driver to stay in control in any road condition, whether wet, dry, rough or even tight corners," she said.
Carving out a niche
The PR and marketing executive said the mid-size seven-seater SUV - which derived its name from the artsy New York neighbourhood - is poised to carve out its niche in the premium segment by taking on several high-end luxury brands.
"It's competing with the BMW X3 and X5, the VW Touareg and ML 320," said Green.
The new Tribeca's 3.6-litre six-cylinder BOXER engine is equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission producing 256-horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque.
Its stylish interior and futuristic dashboard design add to the vehicle's appeal.
The safety features include ABS traction control, curtain-side airbags covering the first two seating rows.
At $8.8 million, Green said the price is quite comparative to vehicles in the segment.
"The driving experience is just unbelievable. It's quiet and smooth and it can be yours," she said.
The Tribeca comes with a two-year warranty or 60,000 kilometres.
