GROS ISLET, St Lucia, (CMC):

Left-handed opener Atticus Browne played a consummate, sheet-anchor role to steer the Windward Islands to a convincing seven-wicket win over Jamaica in their third-round TCL Group West Indies Under-19 One-Day Trophy match here yesterday.

Browne finished undefeated on 79 as the Windwards, set 199 for victory, lost just three wickets in their chase as they reached their target off 40.4 overs.

Earlier, Jamaica were bowled out for 198 off 41.4 overs after they were sent in at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Best figures

Opening bowler Bronte Bess had the best figures of two for 22. His new-ball partner, Kurt Edward, captured two for 23, while captain Audy Alexander bagged two for 27, and Levaughn Lewis, two for 28.

Chasing a tricky total, the three-day champions got off to a great start thanks to Browne, who struck 13 fours in posting 102 for the first wicket with opening partner Denis Smith.

Blackwood had earlier led Jamaica's scoring, hitting 63 with four fours and three sixes, batting at number six, to jump- start his side's innings.
