 Trinidad, (CMC):

Heavy rains over the past few days have resulted in widespread floods across the country, destroying a number of homes and properties but no casualties, disaster officials have said.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar told reporters that her administration is concerned that the flood relief efforts being led by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management "were not significantly coordinated" and they were working towards rectifying the situation.

She said the government had decided to establish an inter-ministerial task force, led by Minister of National Security Brigadier John Sandy, to ensure all forms of relief were provided to persons across the island.

The prime minister, who toured several affected areas on Tuesday, said that more than 100 persons had spent the night at shelters, as the rains caused by the movement of a tropical wave, continued to affect the island.
