- Trevor Fennell memorial match
A St Thomas Invitational XI will play against Portmore United's premier league team at York Oval today at 4:30 p.m. The match is in memory of Trevor Fennell, who passed away under tragic circumstances more than a year ago, on Tuesday July 28, 2009.
Fennell, at the time of his death, was the second vice-president of the St Thomas Football Association, a body he joined in 1994. He was also a very active member of the Jamaica Football Federation's women's committee and a council member of the CEFA.
In a curtain-raiser at 2:30 p.m., the St Thomas All-Star Youth team will face Portmore Under-21. Portmore United are using today's matches as part of their preparation for the upcoming Digicel Premier League season.
- Bridge round-up
Only one bridge tournament was played this week, due to Monday being a public holiday. It once again highlighted the rapid rise to distinction of the recently active junior members, who are themselves in training for the 2011 Caribbean Championships in Cuba, where separate competitions for national and junior teams are anticipated.
Wednesday night's leg of the David Levy Trophy was won in fine style by the leading junior pair of Walter Brown and Nicholas Robinson, whose 57.87 per cent round was good enough to handily relegate one of Jamaica's best and most consistent pairings, Monica Cools-Lartigue and Marlene Fulford (55.56 per cent), to second. The experienced, skilled and urbane Ripton Savin managed third (54.17 per cent), despite playing with an unfamiliar partner, Michael Chuck.

- Gleaner in BH football semi-finals
Former champions The Gleaner qualified for the semi-finals of the KSAFA/Western Sports Business House Division One football competition last Saturday when they defeated JNBS 4-2 at Winchester Park.
A brace from Cavalier Super League player Locksley Thompson and one each from his Cavalier teammate Fabian Swaby and Kenrick Picknight was enough to give the 'newsmen' victory, securing their place in the semi-final event with one match in hand. Jair Minott and Ian Lindsay scored for the losers, as Gleaner led 2-1 at half-time after conceding an early goal.
Gleaner thus joined UWI in joint second with 14 points. The other semi-finalists are the unbeaten leaders Petrojam, who have completed their fixture with 22 points, and former champion Carib Cement on 12 with a game in hand against Norman Manley Inter-national Airport today at Bull Pen.
Defending champions Scotia-bank (also with 12 points) have an outside chance of reaching the semis, but only if Carib Cement lose by a two-goal margin. High-riding Petrojam defeated Norman Manley International Airport 2-0 in their final-round fixture at Tinson Pen last Saturday, thanks to second-half goals from Akeem Simpson and David Stultz.
Quarter-finals
Meanwhile, the quarter-finals of the Scotiabank Group KO competition are on today with Wray & Nephew vs Gleaner at Wray & Nephew playfield, Spanish Town Road; Scotiabank vs Courts at NWC (Mona), and Wisynco vs NWC at Tony Spaulding Sports Complex, all starting at 3:30 p.m.

- Studds rebound in Porus Under-15
Defending champions Studds shrugged off their shocking 4-0 loss to Settlement to rebound in style, slamming Connection by the same score in last weekend's third round of the Western Union-sponsored Porus Under-15 football league.
Romario Mullings, who represented Manchester in the just-concluded Juici Patties South Central Confed Under-15 league, netted twice for the champions. He extends his tally to nine, having pumped in seven in Studds' baptism of the all-female team, Central, when the competition opened at the Porus Community Centre three weekends ago.
Studds, however, had to share the round's highlight with Har-mons, who completed their second win with a 10-0 thumping of Central.
In other results completed last weekend and midweek, Chillzone beat Tuff Gong, while Connection, after three straight defeats, earned their first win, topping Central 3-0.
Owing to the league's 15th-year celebrations, no league matches will be played tomorrow. Instead, the organisers have put on two exhibition matches featuring an under-13, as well as an under-15 side. Each will play a game against an invitational team from St Elizabeth and Christiana.
The league continues next Wednesday at the Porus Commu-nity Centre with the following matches: Broadleaf vs Chillzone and Tuff Gong vs Ebony Stars.

Both the senior and junior leagues are resuming after a one-week break for the annual Denbigh Agricultural Show. Jamalco, Windalco and Mico have put together a 100 per cent winning streak from four previous games.
Jamalco will, therefore, relish the chance to keep their unbeaten streak intact facing Holmwood High (B). A closer fight is expected in the remaining two matchups featuring Hayes against Holmwood A and Optimist vs Denbigh A.
Matches scheduled in the Junior division: Ricam vs Claremont; Gravel Hill vs Longsville; Denbigh B vs McRebuilders; Fogo vs Glenmuir; and Humble Lions vs Tollgate.
- Bottom Halse Hall lead Jamalco League
The clash between the unbeaten Zone One teams Bottom Halse Hall and Top Hill at 4 p.m. today at the Wembley field will be the highlight of this weekend's schedule in the Jamalco Football league. Napoli will face Port in the curtain-raiser set for 2 p.m.
After 27 games and four rounds, the statistics in the Jamalco football league make for interesting analysis: 81 goals, 76 cautions and eight expulsions.
Bottom Halse Hall have the best overall statistics, sitting atop Zone One with maximum nine points from three games, scoring seven and yet to concede a goal. Top Hill are second in Zone One, with six points from the two games they have played. Defending champions Sunset continue to struggle with a single point from three games so far.
Zone Two appears far more competitive with a two-way tie at the top. Savannah and Wembley have seven points each. However, Wembley have an inferior goal average and have played one game more. Juventus come next on five points, followed by New Bowens, four, and South Manchester, three.
The third and final zone is at present led by Mineral Heights on eight points from four games, featuring two wins and two draws. Invincible are next on seven points from three games, with Napoli fourth on six points.

- Cobbla Church League
The Church team eclipsed Roose Madrid as the second-place team in Zone One following their 1-0 win in last weekend's lone game.
Andrew Copeland scored the all-important goal to propel the Church team to nine points, three behind zone leaders Mile Gully. Roose Madrid are next on seven, followed by Village on four. These top four virtually assured themselves of berths in the second round as the bottom two teams, Contrivance and Chantilly, are still to pocket a single point.
In Zone Two, Cumberland failed to show for their encounter against Richmond. The three points enabled Richmond to jump to six points and clutch a place in the second round. Leaders George North (12 points), who have been bolstered by the presence of a few Premier League players, remain firm favourites to top the zone ahead of West Road (10).
No games are scheduled for this weekend. A youth convention is being hosted by the Cobbla New Testament Church of God, sponsors and organisers of the Cobbla Church football league.
