A long & lasting love
What began some eight years ago as a friendship blossomed into a loving relationship that culminated in marriage on Saturday, August 7. It was a beautiful wedding that symbolised a union built on faith and trust.
Kristina Chuck and James Smith pledged their love before a congregation of family and friends at the University Chapel, followed by their wedding reception at the popular Mona Visitors' Lodge on the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies.
The bride is one of four daughters of speaker of the House of Representatives, Delroy Chuck, and his wife, Pat. The groom is the son of businessman James Smith and his wife, Sonia.
Bridesmaids wore claret halter dresses with matching gold and claret jewellery designed by the bride. One tiny orchid petal adorned their hair and they carried bouquets of red anthuriums and orchids arranged on bamboo fans. The bride and her party wore make-up superbly applied by the Face Place. The new Mrs James Smith was picture perfect in a Naomi Watts creation featuring spaghetti straps, a fitted bodice with tucks and a short train. The men wore black suits with claret accents.
Event stylist and florist extra-ordinaire, Ann Marie Weiss, worked her magic and fulfilled the bride's desire for a Chinese-themed celebration with red as the dominant colour.
"I used ivory and gold fans for the bridesmaids, and inside the church as well as at the entrance were huge arrangements of red ginger, anthuriums and yellow and
gold aranthera and mokera orchids. The centrepieces on the tables in the reception area all had lucky bamboo set in containers with red marbles. The gold symbol on the fans and lanterns symbolise double happiness," Weiss told Outlook.
Selena Wong's wedding cake was magnificent and stuck to the red and gold theme.
Canon Peter Mullings officiated, James 'Jimmy' Smith provided the musical interlude before the ceremony and Dwight McBean was the organist.
The bridal party comprised; maid of honour, Charmaine Dumont, Michelle Brocker, and sisters of the bride - Dawn, Mariana and Carolyn Chuck as well as Shari Smith - a junior bridesmaid and flower girl, Grace Chuck. Best man was Paul Peat was ably supported by groomsmen Greg Turner, Jamie Smith, Isa Dattilo, Nicholas Reynolds and junior groomsman Jordan Smith and ring bearer, Isaac Brocker.
