Gleaner, Cement clash
Former champions The Gleaner Company will face Carib Cement in today's feature semi-final of the Western Sports-sponsored Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Business House league competition at Red Stripe Oval, 214 Spanish Town Road, starting at 3:30 p.m.
In the day's other semi-final, unbeaten Petrojam will battle the University of the West Indies (UWI) at the National Water Commission field, Mona, starting at 3:30 p.m.
The Gleaner, who are one of the firm favourites to win this year's title, have in their line-up five members of the Cavalier team which placed fourth in the KSAFA Champions Cup competition last week. The five are striker Locksley Thompson, Fabian Swaby, Donovan Alvaranga, Everdean Scarlett and Bernard Blackwood.
Both teams played to a 0-0 draw in the preliminary round of the competition and Carib Cement, who finished third in the preliminary round on 15 points, two behind The Gleaner (17), will rest their hopes at the feet of striker Fabian Nethersole, Jermaine Rowe, Oniel Gayle, Russell Hosang, and brothers Ayingi and Orlando Lowe, to get to the final.
Petrojam-uwi clash
Meanwhile, the clash between Petrojam and UWI should be exciting. Petrojam finished atop the standings with 22 points, while UWI finished fourth on 13.
Petrojam defeated UWI 1-0 in their preliminary game and are expected to get the better of their opponents.
The Raymond Quallo-coached Petrojam will be depending heavily on the league's leading goalscorer, David Stultz, who has scored six goals in the competition so far, along with Asphas Bernard, Omar Francis, Damion Campbell, Johan Watson and Marvin Powell, for victory.
Meanwhile, the Neville Walters-coached UWI will be hoping to avenge their earlier 1-0 defeat. They will be led by Nicholas Smith, Marvin Morrison, David Pinnock, Owen Hill, Oniel Keane and Kenrick Brown.
The final will be played on Saturday, September 4.
