Haiti end with silver
SINGAPORE (AP):
Bolivia outclassed Haiti 5-0 to win the boys' football gold medal at the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore, despite being a man down for most of the match.
Luis Banegas scored twice for the Bolivians, who played with 10 men after Rodrigo Mejido was given a red card in the first half for elbowing.
The Haitian team was formed only six weeks before the Games began after a January 12 earthquake left an estimated 300,000 people dead on the Caribbean island and devastated its sports infrastructure.
Singapore beat Montenegro 4-1 to take the bronze. The tournament, which also included Zimbabwe and Vanuatu, did not feature any of the traditional football powers.
In other action yesterday, Cuba continued their tradition of boxing excellence by winning three gold medals - Robeisy Eloy Ramirez at 54 kilograms, Irosuani Duverger at 81 kilograms and Lenier Eunice Pero at 91 kilograms.
Lithuania picked up two boxing golds after victories by Eval-das Petrauskas at 60 kilograms and Ricardas Kuncaitas at 64 kilograms.
China added one more gold, extending their lead at the Games to 30, while Russia are second with 19 and South Korea third with 11. The US team has won four gold medals.
