Jackson Shield on tomorrow

Published:Friday | September 3, 2010 | 12:00 AM

The 17th staging of the annual Jackson Shield football challenge between Cornwall College and Munro College will take place tomorrow at Munro College, Malvern, St Elizabeth.

The competition was inaugurated in 1994 to commemorate the life and work of outstanding Cornwall College principal, Norman Jackson. Jackson was instrumental in the setting up of the rural area daCosta Cup.

Tomorrow's competition will, as usual, see the daCosta Cup and Over-35 teams of both institutions battling for the coveted trophy.

The match between the daCosta Cup teams will kick off at 2 p.m. At 4 p.m. the Over-35 teams will lock horns.

The Jackson Shield is awarded to the school with the highest goal aggregate.

The daCosta Cup clash will see both Munro and Cornwall assessing their readiness for the competition, which begins next weekend with a double-header at Jarrett Park.

Both teams advanced to the inter-zone round of the competition last year, but failed to progress to the quarter-final round.

In the Over-35 affair, Cornwall are expected to feature former national players Ali McNab and Warren Barrett, Patrick Reid, Vinton Williams, Raymond 'Cloggy' Clarke, and Conrad HoSang.

Munro, on the other hand, will look to Kenry Jackson, Dale Spencer, Brandon and Courtney Murray, Howard 'Santos' Lawrence, Roy Reynolds, and Carlton 'Replay' Campbell.

Cornwall College is this year celebrating its 114th anniversary and Munro College its 154th.
