Champions Barbican successfully defended their Jamaica Football Federation Sherwin Williams Colourscape Women's Knockout crown, with a hard-fought 1-0 win over debutants Los Perfectos at the University of the West Indies Bowl yesterday.
Nadola Chase scored the lone goal in the 85th minute.
"This was a very hard-fought game because Los Perfectos came here and they stretched us in a nerve-wracking way," said Charles Edwards, the coach of Barbican, who are also the league champions
"I think that it is good to see that the talent is spreading out and it is also a good thing for women's football," added Edwards, a former national women's coach.
Continuing, he said: "I think that my team played well from the back to the middle, but upfront we were horrible today. But there is a lot of work that we need to do ... we are happy that we retained the title."
Merron Gordon, coach of Los Perfectos, who were losing their second final of the season, praised his players for their effort.
"I am happy for the girls because they are young and this is also their second final of the year so far," said Gordon, whose team was beaten by Portmore Strikers in the mid-season final. "I think that this team will be in a lot more finals for years to come."
Gordon added: "I think that the Barbican defenders are very experienced and they were also much stronger than us. They didn't give our forwards any time to shoot at goal, but I think as the season progresses, we will get it right."
