Joseph Dibbs, the 2010 men's singles winner at the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) National Championships, says 'hard training' and analysis of his main opposition's game made the difference in conquering two-time defending champion, Peter Moo Young, 4-0 (11-9, 11-4, 11-5, 13-11) in the final at the University of Technology (UTech) Auditorium on Sunday.
Dibbs also won in 1997 and 2006.
"I studied his (Moo Young's) game on video and analysed his weaknesses," said Dibbs, team captain of Jamaica's four-man squad for the Commonwealth Games, which begins October 4 in Dehli, India.
"I played the ball short to Moo Young to set up my forehand drive."
In addition, Dibbs, who lost to Moo Young in the two previous finals, says his training in the national programme, under the guidance of head coach, Winston Cowans, helped with his fitness and preparation for the tournament.
Dibbs also teamed up with 19-year-old Simon Tomlinson to notch the men's doubles title.
Meanwhile, Yvonne Foster, the top- ranked female player in the island, copped her sixth straight female senior title.
Foster defeated Ashli Alexander in straight sets - 11-8, 11-6, 11-6, 11-7.
Foster won three titles in total. She teamed up with Janelle Morris to cop the women's doubles and also paired with Michael Cai to snatch the mixed doubles title.
"I have won this title six straight years, so I'm quite pleased with my performance," said Fopster. "It is a lot of hard work because people are always saying that they are going to beat me, so I train four times per week, three hours per day," she added.
Meanwhile, Kareem Flowers, formerly of Wolmer's Boys and now at UTech, successfully defended his U-18 title, as he defeated Jermaine James three sets to nil.
