Sheldon Bryan twice hit the target for Westmoreland homesters Reno, which turned back Clarendon team Humble Lion 2-1 in their third-round Digicel Premier League game at Frome yesterday.

Reno had the kick-off, and almost immediately Bryan found the back of the net with a shot from outside the penalty area.

Bryan was on hand to score again in the 69th minute and could have actually sealed a hat-trick in the 84th, had it not been for a pool of water at the goalmouth, which stopped the ball in goalmouth after the striker had lobbed the Humble Lion custodian.

The first half was dominated by Reno, despite the best efforts of Humble Lion in soaking conditions, due to the heavy rains at Frome.

Purposeful look

The rains were anywhere from light to torrential throughout the game but amidst that, Humble Lion came out looking more purposeful in the second half and had Reno on the backfoot until Bryan changed the momentum with his second goal.

Wendel Downswell, the head of Reno's coaching staff, was quite elated and expressed satisfaction at the performance of his young crop of players.

"They came out and did the all-important which is to score goals and not concede," he said.

Downswell said he was pleased with his team's second win in a row, having beaten Arnett Gardens 3-0 in their last encounter on Sunday.

Despite this, he remains wary as his team heads for two away games, starting this Sunday at Waterhouse.

"It will not be easy winning at Waterhouse but I am expecting a good game; and I believe if the boys stick to the task we can be victorious."
