Dean Shaw tops drag racing fest

Dean Shaw came out on top in the featured event at the Jamwest Speedway event - Last Man Standing - in Westmoreland last Sunday.
Shaw, driving a Chevy Camaro, smoked his rival Desmond Lee, who also drove a Chevy Camaro - a little over eight seconds.
Shaw was just two milli-seconds ahead of Lee, who clocked 9.00 seconds to have been the runner-up for the top race of the day.
Track Manager Windsor Young said they had a great day in terms of the races but spectator turnout was not a very good one.
"We had a great day, but I think because we had it in the middle of the month the turnout was a little poor," he said. "Persons called us asking if it was raining, because it was raining all over the island. So, most of the spectators were expecting rain and never showed up."
Young said those in attendance were thoroughly entertained with races in eight to 16 seconds classes.
"The D. Shaw and Desmond Lee friendly showdown was a good one and closed off the day," said Young.
Other winners
The results for the other classes were: nine-second class, Desmond Lee was the victor, winning in 9.5 seconds. In the 10-second class, Lyndon Bardowell won in his Honda Civic in 10.8 seconds while Lance Rhone won the 11-second class in his Toyota Scarlet in 11.3 seconds. Kevin Archer, driving his Toyota Corolla in 12.6, topped the 12 second class; Gregory Plummer in his Honda Integra in 13.3 took the 13-second class; Devon Wills in his Honda Civic in 14.4 for the 14-second class; Leroy Allen in his Honda Integra in 15.1 for the 15-second class, and Dwayne Hams, who was the only contender in this class, in his Honda Civic took 16-second class.
Young said patrons can look out for the final meet for the year on Sunday, November 28, where organisers are looking forward to pairing up rivals.
"Lee has said if D. Shaw does not bring down his time from 8.88 seconds he is going to beat him," Young said.
