Striker Javon Wright netted a minute into the second half to guide Wolmer's Boys to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Spanish Town High in Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup action at Heroes Circle yesterday.

The well-built Wright, who for much of the game was a handful for the boys from the Old Capital, found himself on the end of a throw-in inside the area, and with two defenders closing in on him, held his composure, before neatly side-footing home.

The win pushed Wolmer's into second spot in Group E on 11 points, four behind leaders and unbeaten St George's College. Spanish Town have 10 points.

"We needed a turning point and this match was it. We were almost in a must-win situation, and through grit and determination we pulled through," said Wolmer's coach, Ludlow Bernard.

Spanish Town coach, Anthony Thompson, meanwhile, said the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow as Wolmer's did not play better football than his team.

"I feel bad about the result as they they didn't outplay us, and I don't think they are a better team than us," said Thompson.

"It's just that the recent rains affected us in terms of training and preparation, and we weren't able to get our act together."
