Artistes rise from new film
RiseUp, the first feature-length documentary directed by Luciano Blotta, and Jamaican associate producer, Carlo Less, showcases emerging and legendary artistes, and bellows original music by Sizzla,
Daddigon, Sly & Robbie, Richie Spice, Turbulence and many others.
RiseUp's reggae soundtrack is as powerful as it is stirring, leading one to readily agree with a comment by the featured Rastafarian elder, Ras Haile Malekot, that "music is a positive force coming through ... where it can influence the ways and lives of our people to become a better nation."
RiseUp, which follows the lives of three aspiring artistes struggling to pursue their dreams in
Jamaica's competitive underground music scene unveiled to the rest of the world, Clarendon-native Kemoy Reid, declared "the brightest star of RiseUp" by viewers. Reid is busy in the studio producing materials for her premier album.
Then there is Ice Anastasia who is still pursuing his dream of setting Jamaica's music scene ablaze with his brand of new soul reggae.
There is also Turbulence who, since RiseUp, has broken into mainstream reggae and is an artiste in his own right.
A potential Best Documentary nominee for the 2011 Academy Awards, RiseUp premieres in Jamaica on October 26 at Carib 5 cinema, and opens in theatres islandwide the following day.
