Germany is known for a number of things: its famous highways (Autobahn) and cars; its industry and culture; its wines and, of course, its beer. It is said that there are scores of German beer brands, with many towns and even villages producing their own version of the brew.

Local beer drinkers will get an opportunity to taste several varieties of German beer at this year's, Oktoberfest to take place Friday at Kingston's Four Seasons Hotel.

From black beer to white beer and lagers, a total of 11 German beers will be on offer at the local version of the folk festival, which originated with the wedding celebrations of the Bavarian King, Ludwig V, and has evolved into a harvest thanksgiving festival. It is celebrated internationally by persons with an interest in German culture.

The Munich Oktoberfest is world renowned as the biggest folk festival on Earth, attracting celebrities from all across the world to the Bavarian capital annually. This year's Munich Oktoberfest celebrated its 200th anniversary.
