Barbican Football Club yesterday claimed the 2010 Sherwin Williams Women's League title, when they played to a 0-0 draw with Los Perfectos in the second-leg final at Barbican to seal a 2-0 aggregate scoreline.

The win meant that Barbican became the first team to win the competition three years in a row. For their hard work, they will collect the main prize money of $350,000, while Los Perfectos will collect $250,000.

While they would have been happy with their win, Barbican must have felt let down by their performance, which was well below their best.

Edwards extremely happy

"The performance was tardy. After seeing them in the last two training sessions, I thought we would have been in for a really exciting game this evening, but it did not happen," said coach Charles Edwards, summing up his team's performance at the end of the game.

"The truth is, though, it is better to have an ugly win than a pretty loss, and it is our third in row and we have that to fall back on, so I am extremely happy with that," he added.

Los Perfectos' Merron Gordon was proud of his young charges.

"We came into the game two goals down so we had to change our system to go after goals. With that, I knew we would not have seen a pretty free-flowing game as we took a more direct approach. It did not work out for us but we are still proud of the girls. They are young and they have been to three finals for the season. I am proud of them," he said.

The game itself had rare moments of quality, with Barbican looking the better of the two. However, they were unable to beat Sheena Win in goal for Los Perfectos, with Janine Dennis and Jodi-Ann McGregor coming closest to scoring for Barbican.

Barbican's Khalie Beckford was largely untroubled in goal as Los Perfectos' main goalscoring threat, Semone Honeghan, was starved of passes. In her only opening, poor control let her down.
