His dream is to be an artist but his love for cooking has led him to Prendy's kitchen.

Chef Davian Wallace is 21 years old and is one of the two senior chefs at Prendy's. He said he is an aspiring artist but he loves cooking, "and for me it is fun and that's why I do it so well," he said.

The young chef said he was introduced to cooking by his father, Stafford Wallace, when he was nine years old. "Cooking is a family tradition and we were all taught that we have to learn a trade so we can help ourselves," said chef Wallace.

He recalled that he tried to cook his first meal when he was seven years of age and got in trouble for it. His father believed that he was too young to be messing around a stove and fire by himself.

He noted that he prepared sardine and rice with canned corn. "It turned out well, as I had always been observant and I watched how much water they put in the rice when they were cooking," he said proudly.

Wallace is no stranger to the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week (RW), and he has been with the restaurant for the past two years. He said he was excited about RW and hoped to see more customers come to dine at the restaurant, enjoying some high-quality food and good customer service.
