ANTIGUA - Online gaming dispute still ongoing
St John's, Antigua (CMC):
The Antigua and Barbuda government on Wednesday said it has not accepted any money from the United States to end the ongoing dispute over online gaming.
"We have not accepted any offers that have been put on the table. Before we accept any offers that are placed on the table, we would consult with the relevant parties here in Antigua and Barbuda," finance and economy Minister Harold Lovell said.
US lawmakers have made it illegal for American residents to engage in the multi-billion cross-border online gambling, but Lovell said that while the two parties have been seeking to find an amicable solution to the problem, no agreement has yet been reached.
bad politics
"It's always bad politics and bad policy to make extensive comments with respects to matters that are under negotiation," Lovell said.
"What I can say is that we have been engaging the United States. As you know, the discussions have been protracted simply because we are not happy with what the United States has placed on the table," he added.
