ST KITTS - Persons detained in connection to weekend cruise-ship robbery

Law-enforcement officials have detained four people in connection with the weekend robbery of 17 cruise-ship passengers. He declined to provide further information, saying that the investigations were still in the initial stage. Police and military personnel have been searching several persons' homes and vehicles following the incident over the last weekend when the passengers from the Celebrity Mercury were robbed at Brimstone Hill, one of the island's main tourist attractions.
Since the incident, two cruise ships have cancelled calls to St Kitts this week. Carnival Cruise Lines on Monday said it was diverting Carnival Miracle with its more than 2,000 passengers to Antigua. Princess Cruises' Grand Princess also announced plans to divert to the neighbouring island. Meanwhile, the main Opposition People's Action Movement has condemned the approach adopted by Tourism Minister Richard Skerrit on the matter.
