When the dust had settled at November 7th's staging of Sound Ruption 5.5 at Jarrett Park, Montego Bay, Ripton 'Naseve' Wedderburn was the last man standing.

From a field of 13 entrants, the Portmore-based Wedderburn retained his car-stereo crown in the 45-segment of the competition, much to the delight of the hundreds of patrons on hand.

"Big up all my fans," he said. "I couldn't do it without them."

Wedderburn, a licensed aircraft engineer by profession, said he was well prepared for the encounter.

"I had flavour. I put a lot of energy and emotion in my performance," he told Automotives. "I also listened keenly to the competition and used my experience."

He said when he played Bryan Ferry's R&B hit Taxi and went and sat in one of the competitor's car, the crowd went wild.

Wedderburn, who had a '97 Blue Toyota Surf, had high praises for his rivals.

"White Camry was 100 per cent improved," he said. "Nobody was really a loser."

Organiser Kingsley Scott said the event was a success despite the fact that the 'Dub Fi Dub' segment was not staged.

"The second round of the Dub fi Dub section was discontinued due to the Noise Abatement Act," Scott said. "We're hoping for an earlier start next year."

He said the next instalment of the biannual event is Labour Day, May 23, next year.

"I want to thank the patrons and fans for their continued support," Scott added.
