G.C. Foster lift Garrell KO trophy
G. C. Foster College defeated College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) 3-0 in the Inter-collegiate Sports Association's Greg Garrell Knockout football final at the University of Technology last Saturday.
The winners got their goals from Daedrian Williams (17th), Jermaine Miller (64th) and Oshane Foote in the 86th minute.
The champions dominated the first half as they mounted numerous attacks on their opponents and it came as no surprise when they took the early lead from a free kick.
Sanjae Whitton who took the kick found the unmarked Wiliams who made no mistake as he fired the ball pass the defenders and goalkeeper Sean Lawrence to make it 1-0 for the Spanish Town-based team.
CASE tried to get back on even terms quickly through the attacking Trevor Burrell, Clinton Clarke and Gilbert Williams but found the GC Foster defence led by Whitton and Earl Bennett hard to penetrate as the half ended with G.C. Foster 1-0 in front.
The CASE team came out in an attacking mood in the second half as they were determined to get on even terms but paid the price for having too many players up front as G.C Foster countered well. Jermaine Miller led his team on the counter-attack and found Sediki Johnson whose shot was blocked by Kemar Pinnock. Johnson controlled the rebound and passed to Miller who fired home to make it 2-0.
With time running out and two goals down the Portland-based CASE tried desperately to get back into the game and launched a number of attacks as Burrell, Calvin Smalling and Williams did their best but were unable to convert. With less than five minutes to go, the G. C. Foster team knocked the fight out of their opponents and sealed the issue when Miller broke away and found Foote who fired pass the CASE custodian to give his team a comfortable win.
G.C. Foster will be seeking the double as they are also in the final of the Division 1 competition where they will meet the University of Technology later this week.
