  • Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove wins Cal's pool tourney

MoBay's Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove won the Cal's Manufacturing/Real Vibes Party Wine eight-ball pool tour for the second time last weekend, capturing the fourth leg of the all-island tour at Chelsea Hotel & Sports Bar, 5 Chelsea Avenue, New Kingston.

Blagrove, who won the opening leg of the tour at Hot Shots Pool Bar, Constant Spring Road, in August, came back to beat Shawn Colley from Spanish Town 4-1 in the best-of-seven final.

For his efforts, Blagrove received $80,000 and the winners' trophy, while Colley secured $35,000 and a trophy for having finished second.

In the play-off for third place between the losing semi-finalists, Goran Faulkner from May Pen defeated Mandeville's Clive Powell 3-1 to secure $15,000, with Powell pocketing $7,500 for fourth.

Players finishing from fifth to eighth each received $2,500. They were, in order of placing, Dean Blackwood, Ewart Hall, Francis Grizzle and Ainsworth Palmer.

En route to the final, Blagrove defeated Powell 4-2 in one semi-final, while Colley blanked Faulkner 4-0 in the other semi-final to set up the final showdown.

The tournament attracted a record 62 players, several of whom re-entered the tournament after losing in the first round. Among the players were three women - Nicky Lawrence, Francine Cardoza and Lennore Donnovan. None made it beyond the second round.

Blagrove and Colley were presented with trophies and prizes by Cal's Manufacturing brand manager, Sabrina Thomas, and operations manager, Kirsha Bedward. All four prize winners received gift baskets as well.

The fifth stop on the tour of seven will take place on December 18 and 19 at Island Delight Seafood Restaurant and Sports Bar at Byndloss Cross Roads, Linstead.


  • Super Sunday in Pattex Cup skittles

The Pattex Cup skittles competition moves into its fourth round tomorrow with as many as 12 teams in action at Bejon's Sports Bar, Hughenden Plaza, starting at 1 p.m.

Dubbed 'Super Sunday', the matches on are Mercury vs newcomers Hangover from Portmore, Willies vs Mister C, defending champions Eastern All-Stars vs Portmore's The Dip, Dragon vs Starliner, home team Eagles vs Mystix and Waltham Strikers vs Rowe's Strikers.

To facilitate the teams, play will embrace three tables.

Meanwhile, in the two matches played at Mercury Skittles Club in Spanish Town last Sunday, Mister C pipped home team Mercury 6-5, while Olympic Strikers came from one game down to overwhelm Hangover 10-1

Hangover, from Mega Way in Portmore, are yet to win a match.


  • Digicel 20/20 BH cricket final tomorrow

High-riding LIME go for their second trophy in the Digicel Business House cricket series when they oppose Jamalco in the Digicel 20/20 final at Chalmers Avenue, off Molynes Road, starting at 11 a.m.

Significantly, LIME have made it to the finals of all four competitions run by the Business House Cricket Board. Last month they easily defeated National Housing Trust in the 35-over Noranda Bauxite Partners KO cricket final.

In addition to tomorrow's 20/20 final, LIME will also meet defending champions Jamaica Broilers in the Best Dressed Chicken 30-over KO final on December 12, and Broliers again in the Reggae Jammin 50-over league final on December 19.

LIME are defending league champions, having beaten Broilers in last year's final at Kensington Park.


  • Business House awards presentations

Both the JNBS/Western Sports-sponsored Inter-Bank Norman Goodison football awards presentation and the KSAFA/Western Sports Business House Football Association awards functions are scheduled a day apart next week.

First up is the inter-bank awards presentation function on Wednesday, December 8 at the Scotiabank Sports Club, Liguanea, starting at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, December 9, at the same venue, the Business House Football Association will hold its presentation function, also at 7 p.m.

Petrojam will receive the Division I trophy, while the Wisynco Group, having won the Division II title and KO competition, will receive two of the major trophies.

For the inter-bank competition, the Scotiabank Group will receive the Norman Goodison trophy, having won the inter-bank competition for the third consecutive year.


  • Portmore/St Catherine domino shuffles off

The Charlie's JB Rum-Supreme Ventures Portmore/St Catherine Domino League starts with eight games around Portmore and other St Catherine venues tomorrow.

Former champions Caribbean Classic host Westchester Nuckuz at their Portmore Lane home. In other games, North Street United challenge Colours Sports Club at Old Harbour, Masterpiece play Triple X at Old Harbour Bay, Ackee Pod take on Passagefort United at March Pen Road, Eagle View welcome Caymanas Track at Old Braeton, Eradication entertain Lime Tree Grove at Gregory Park, Right Stuff oppose Correctional Services at Cedar Grove, while Garveymeade and Ken's Wildflower square off at the Garveymeade Sports Club. All games begin at 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, defending champs Fort International will not open their account until next week, as a death in the family of one of the club's members has forced them to postpone their scheduled match against Village Link.


  • Westport, Daytona clash

Westport and Daytona will square off in a LIME-sponsored Portmore Division Two Football League match at Passagefort field tomorrow at 3 p.m.

In last Sunday's games, Watson Grove blanked Braeton United 3-0 in the feature match of a Ferdie Neita Park double-header. In the opening game at the venue, Hellshire United clipped newcomers East Portmore Portals 2-1. Gregory Salmon (19th) and Rohan Grant (68th, penalty) scored for Hellshire, whereas Jovian Richards (57th, penalty) scored for Portals.


  • Dunbeholden surprise Royal Lakes 2-0

Portmore's Dunbeholden surprised high-riding club Royal Lakes 2-0 in the LIME-sponsored St Catherine FA Major League on Thursday. Royal Lakes were on cloud nine after they booted Super League club Meadows 2-0.

Fitzroy Lawrence (16th) and Delmar Holness (66th) scored for Dunbeholden. Another Portmore side, Cumberland, defeated DB Basovak 3-1. Orlando Brian, Christopher Cunningham and Craig Parker scored for Cumberland, while Ardane Bowers netted DB Basovak's consolation goal. One Portmore side was not so lucky, as Rodwood from Waterford went down 1-0 to Black Lions via Jason Peart 39th-minute goal.


  • Rivoli, Portsmouth face off in LIME KO

Former Premier League side Rivoli United face off with Major League outfit Portsmouth in the LIME St Catherine FA knockout quarter-finals at the Spanish Town Prison Oval tomorrow at 3 p.m. In the other quarter-final game, Royal Lakes tackle Tru-Juice at 5 p.m. Defending champions Portmore United oppose Division One team Frazer's Whip in a feature quarter-final match at 5 p.m. on Monday at the above venue, after Naggo Head and Albion square off in the opening game at 3 p.m.


  • Claro Clarendon KO

Rollin Ranger scored in extra time to hand Ebont Stars a 1-0 win over Freetown at Comfort playing field in the Clarendon Claro Knockout football competition on Thursday. In another match, York Town whipped Rock River 3-1 at Clarendon College, with Omar Whyte getting a hat-trick. Whyte scored in the 30th, 41st and 70th minutes. Gladstone Pusey got the consolation goal for Rock River in the 27th minute.

The final round-two matches are scheduled for today at the Gimme-Me-Bit football field. These games will be Claro featured matches. The scheduled matches are: Sporting Athletic vs Comfort FC at 1 p.m. and Spartan Athletic vs Coffalls FC at 3 p.m.


  • Intercol TT finals

This season's intercollegiate table tennis competition will culminate today with play in all events at the University of Technology auditorium. Men's team semi-finals and final, and women's team final and individual events will be played.

In men's action, defending champions UTech Knights will face G.C. Foster in one semi-final, while last year's beaten finalists, UWI Pelicans, will take on Mico in the other. In the women's final, defending champions UWI Pelicans will be up against last year's runners-up UTech Knights, in a repeat of last year's final.

On the men's side, UTech Knights finished atop the standings with 18 points, ahead of UWI Pelicans with 16 points; and G.C. Foster and Mico on 14 points each. Mico placed ahead of G.C. Foster after the results of the first round (5-0 win for Mico) and return matches (4-1 win for G.C. Foster) were compared. Montego Bay Community College (MBCC) and Excelsior Community College (Exed) finished with 12 and 6 points, respectively.

In the women's section, UTech Knights finished with 11 points, ahead of UWI and G.C. Foster on eight points each. UWI placed second, ahead of G.C. Foster, by virtue of winning on both occasions when the two teams met in the rounds. Exed placed fourth with 3 points.

Colin McNeish is the coach for the UTech Knights, Sandra Riettie for UWI Pelicans, Richard Davidson for G.C. Foster, Glendon Powell for MBCC, Edison Phillips for Exed, with Obrien Henry serving as player/coach for Mico.

Action will start with play in the men's singles at 10 a.m. and women's singles will begin at 11 o'clock. Both men's team semi-finals will be contested at noon, with men's and women's doubles starting at 1 p.m.. At 2 p.m. mixed doubles will begin and both team finals will start at 3:30 p.m. Women's singles final is scheduled for 5 p.m. and men's singles final for 5:50 p.m.. The day will end with the presentation of trophies.
