Dawkins' 'A State of Affairs' begins on Boxing Day
'A State of Affairs', written by leading playwright Basil Dawkins, opens on Monday, December 27, the day Boxing Day will be celebrated this year, at the Little Little Theatre, with two performances at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
A State of Affairs centres on the life of a married couple, both of whom are in their second marriage.
The husband - who is a very good-natured and charming young man - has become deeply concerned about his increasing and compulsive urges to cheat on his wife. So, in an attempt to save his marriage and protect his wife from inevitable pain, the husband seeks counselling from the church.
But, in the pursuit of a solution to his issue, he stirs up a hornet's nest by revealing some "strange truths". The husband, together with the audience, then learns that things are not always what they appear to be, and the causes of problems may come from the most unexpected sources.
Outstanding cast
The cast will include outstanding actors Jerry Benzwick as the husband; Sakinal, his wife; Rishille Bellamy-Pelicie, the young counsellor; and Actor Boy Lead Actress awardee Ruth HoShing - senior counsellor and director at the church facility. The 2009 Actor Boy Best Director awardee Douglas Prout is the director.
"A State Of Affairs not only offers a bellyful of laughter - which is needed nowadays to ease the daily pressures of life - but brings into sharp focus the fact that traditional approaches are not always the best and most effective methods to resolve challenges within the family and personal relationships.
"In fact, viable change and results can come through brand new applications, including the use of the social-network system, smartphones and the World Wide Web," said Dawkins.
As is customary, Dawkins is offering the play as a fund-raiser to organisations wishing to raise funds to boost their social-outreach projects. Interested organisations may call 819-7704 for benefit bookings.
The play will run Tuesdays to Thursdays at 8:30 p.m.; with two shows on Saturdays and Sundays at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
