GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

Teenaged left-arm pacer Andre Stoll is the only new face in the Guyana 14-man squad which will launch a defence of their Caribbean Twenty20 Championship title in Antigua and Barbados next month.

The 19-year-old Police fast bowler, who played in this year's West Indies Under-19 series in St Lucia, is also a useful lower-order batsman and joins Chris Barnwell and Esuan Crandon as the fast bowlers in the squad.

As expected, rejected West Indies stroke-maker Ramnaresh Sarwan will lead the side which has been strengthened by the inclusion of veteran left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul, who missed the inaugural tournament in July.

Stoll was picked after a groin injury sidelined medium pacer Paul Wintz, who was a member of the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 team in South Africa.

West Indies A left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul, who was unavailable for this year's CT20, the CLT20 in South Africa and last month's WICB One-Day Championship in Jamaica, due to his High Performance Centre commitments, returns to boost the squad's bowling.

He will join forces with his Albion teammate, leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo, Guyana's Cricketer of the Year.

Retain places

Jonathon Foo, who elevated himself to hero status after winning Guyana the CT20 with his heroic innings in the final, retains his place, as does Steven Jacobs and Richard Ramdeen.

However, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Assad Fudadin have both been dropped from the teams that played in the CT20 and CLT20.

The 36-year-old Chanderpaul, meanwhile, was not selected for the CLT20 after he opted to play in the English County Championship instead of representing Guyana, and now reclaims his spot in the side.

Much will depend on Chanderpaul and Sarwan in the batting department, while Narsingh Deonarine gets another chance to show his form and fitness. His selection gives the side another useful bowling option.

Wicketkeeper Derwin Christian retains his place, mainly due to Anthony Bramble's poor showing behind the stumps in the regional one-day tournament, but there is no place for Lennox Cush, who was a member of the CLT20 side in South Africa.

A useful off-spinning all-rounder, Cush did not participate in the Guyana Cricket Board's Twenty20 tournament which was used to select the team.

SQUAD: Ramnaresh Sarwan (captain), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Richard Ramdeen, Travis Dowlin, Narsingh Deonarine, Steven Jacobs, Jonathon Foo, Royston Crandon, Andre Stoll, Derwin Christian, Veerasammy Permaul, Davindra Bishoo, Chris Barnwell, Esuan Crandon.
