Saturday Life cools out with crooner Anthony Cruz, who chats about life, family and career.

Who is Anthony Cruz?

I am a country boy from Manchester and the nephew of the late Garnet Silk.

When did you first realise your love for music?

From as early as the age of 16, I always knew that I wanted to sing - to make positive music.

Where have you travelled in the past year?

I just did a tour in Montreal, Canada, Miami, New York, Japan and Europe.

What's new for Anthony Cruz?

I have the No. 1 song in Africa titled Only the Father, produced by John, John; I have a rhythm out called the Formula, and my new album Cruz Control. You can check me out at Myspace.com/jahcruz and at 'Flashjahcruz' for Facebook or Twitter.com/Jahcruz.

Tell us, in such a hardcore space like dancehall, how do you stay so calm and cool?

When I was younger and I just started out, I used to be very hype, but as I got older, I became wiser, and now I am just enjoying myself with who and what matters most to me.

Tell us about your signature style?

I like to look nice and dress different. I am not a person who only wears specific brand names. I wear whatever I look good in and what is comfortable to me.

Do you have any projects currently working on now?

Well, I just released my first dancehall song titled More Money less than a month ago, with DJ Bill Gates. I did a collaboration with Capleton. The More Money video shoot is on its way. The video shoot from my song titled Back Downtown was recently done, the prime minister and others were there; as it shows a real and positive perspective of downtown, and moving away from the negative connotations attached with it, you know. So that's it.

What are your plans for Christmas?

Well, I am performing at G.T. Extravaganza on Christmas Day. Apart from that, studio work, you understand what I mean - tours and a lot of writing, but the most exciting and important thing I will be doing is spending time with my kids, my family and close friends.

What advice do you have to give to young upcoming singers?

Always include the Almighty and stay true to the positive music you love.
