'Return to Serge' today
Motor-vehicle enthusiasts and adventure seekers will be on the streets for this year's staging of the fun-filled, off-road calendar event, 'Return to Serge', scheduled for today.
The convoy - comprising enthusiasts in their own SUVs, 4x4s, trail bike and quads - leaves Bob Marley statue, which is across from the National Stadium, at 9 a.m. The group then heads for the hills of St Andrew, eventually ending at the Hillside Falls behind Serge Island in St Thomas.
"It's a great experience for family and friends," said Mitchell Watson, group public relations manager at Sandals Resort International/ATL and ATL Automotive. "It's going to be a great event."
Watson, whose organisation is supporting this year's event, said it was a good opportunity to showcase their off-road vehicles.
"We have the Land Rover and the VW Amarok which are suitable for this terrain," he said.
Watson said the event - founded by Craig Bernard, Wayne Reynolds and Kris DaCosta - has grown since its inception three and a half years ago to a full-scale family outing.
"It's one great way to see Jamaica," said Watson.
The day promises an exciting journey steeped in camaraderie, as well as the opportunity to see some parts of the beautiful countryside, including Guava Ridge, Mavis Bank, Bethel, Hagley Gap and Trinityville.
Participants will also be able to test drive the Volkswagen Amarok and Land Rover.
For those less interested in the vehicles, designated communal barbecue areas are provided while the stunning waterfall is only steps away. Participants will provide their own food and drinks.
"It is a great opportunity to chill and meet new people," Watson added.
