FALMOUTH, Trelawny

Holland United won the Trelawny Patrick Harris KO football final 1-0 over Palmento on Thursday. Romaine Lewis scored the winning goal in the 64th minute, in the game played at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth. Left unmarked in the penalty area, Lewis collected a pass from Vijay Gentles and sidestepped his markers before shooting low and hard into the back of the net.

The outstanding player for Holland was midfield general Nickyle Webber, who dismissed two players in getting the ball to Gentles. Webber was like a thorn in the flesh of the Palmento team for the entire match, with some telling runs in the centre of the field.

Palmento were a shadow of the team which beat Digicel Premier League outfit Village United on its way to the final. It was obvious that the players were, in their minds, still celebrating their victory over Village instead of concentrating on the task at hand.

Winning coach Dwight Jeremiah said the team deserved the victory as they had trained very hard ahead of the season.

"This year we wanted to be the giant killers, we trained hard and did not concede any goal in all our games. Goals win matches but defence wins championships," Jeremiah said.

Holland join Village who were losing this local competition for the first time in six years in the All-Island Champions Cup.

Jeremiah is hoping to do much better in the Champions Cup KO this season, as they were knocked out in the first round when they last took part in the competition.
