While many sports personalities worldwide are in the process of applying the finishing touches to their New Year's resolution, Jamaica's motorsport fraternity already have set their sights on major goals when the new season begins later this month.

Hot on the agenda is the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) proposed international go-kart race.

According to Neil Williams, a JKA director, once the plans are finalised, the meet should attract the best karters in North America.

Joshua and Justin Sirgany, Jonathan Law, Thomas Issa, Collin Daley, Matthew Williams and William Myers are among Jamaica's best chances of a podium finish at the upcoming US Grand National Championship, once they qualify in their respective classes.

Hoping for big sponsorship deal

The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) driver of the year, Matthew Gore, is hoping to land a big sponsorship deal to enhance his chances of returning to circuit racing in the United Kingdom.

Among his aspirations is representing Jamaica in the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship and being more competitive in this year's Dover Raceway Championship.

Outside of the popular David Summerbell, Peter Rae and Doug Gore; motorsport fans are expecting a big show from Christopher Campbell, Kyle Gregg, Teddy Burton and Alan Chen this year.

The fans are also hungry for some action from the Clarendon-based Peter 'Bull' Thompson, who had some challenges last season. Hopefully, he will return with his popular RX7 Mazda.

While Bobby Marshall may be gearing up for the Barbados rally series, all eyes will be on Gary 'The Colonel' Gregg who won the Petcom/JMMC Stages Rally last month. It will not be surprising if Gregg takes things to another level this year, based on his success over the past five years.

Though he has been absent from the track, Stephan Chin, is looking forward to return with a bang. If his is able to secure a good sponsorship deal, the top rider may take the challenge to his rivals on the North American circuit.

Congrats to the champions of last year and Automotives wish all go-karters, circuit racers and rally drivers the best for 2011.
