A extra-time (95th-minute) strike by Sanjay Williams carried Frazer's Whip to a 1-0 victory over Rivoli United in the final of the LIME St Catherine Football Association knockout competition at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Wednesday.

It was an evenly contested first half with the former Premier League campaigners, Rivoli, having the better of play.

Rivoli squandered three early chances with the easiest missed by Fidel Anderson, who kicked wide after getting a pass from Ricardo Knight.

Close shot

Frazer's Whip also went close when a shot by Jevaune Benjamin hit the crossbar.

In the second half, both teams continued to keep the action from end to end.

Frazer's Whip looked very purposeful with several telling passes with the likes of Alton Brown, Benjamin and Kemar Beckford keeping Rivoli defence under a great deal of pressure. It was 0-0 at full time, but that changed in the fifth minute of extra time when substitute Frazer's Whip's Sanjay Williams received a pass in the 18-yard box and unleashed a ferocious right foot shot which crashed into the back of the net.

Reduced to 10 men

Rivoli were reduced to 10 men in the 101st minute when captain Fabian Gordon was sent off after he was shown a second yellow card.

Ryan Gordon, coach of the winners, said his tactics paid off in the end.

"I brought on Williams as we knew that he was our fastest player and would be lethal once he got the ball," Gordon said.

His counterpart, Calvert Fitz-gerald, praised his rivals.

"Based on their showing, Frazer's are deserving of the victory. They came and simply refused to lose," Fitzgerald said.

The result made Frazer's Whip $100,000 richer and Rivoli were rewarded with $50,000.

There was also a special award of a BlackBerry phone to André Taylor, the goal scorer for Tru-Juice, who defeated Naggo Head 1-0 in the third-place play-off.
