They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, but what about the way to that of a woman? Flowers? Shoes? Diamonds? Anyone can buy these things, particularly if they have money. What about the effort behind the sentiment? Surely men can understand that - more than anything - the labour made for love is what counts!

This Valentine's Day, why not truly wine and dine the woman in your life? Forget restaurants that cram 22 tops in a space only meant for 12. Don't think about the special deal for a meal, with the free glass of sparkling wine and the red rose. Instead, plan the most romantic evening of a girl's life, right in the comfort of your home.

There are a few things to think about, in preparation for the big night. First, make a list of what you will need. Second, consider foods that are fun to eat, will appeal to her, and are available, of course! The rest is easy, because I am going to guide you.

Women love to pick, but at the same time, they need to be satisfied, which is why substantial hors d'oeuvres are ideal. The other thing is, women also like to feel healthy, so a salad is an absolute must! And finally, of course, you have to have dessert. Again, opt for mini ones.

However, if you want to show off, make a large, dark chocolate cake with milk chocolate icing, topped with white chocolate shavings, for her to share with friends after. Nothing eats a girl's heart out more than impressing her posse!

Emma's Menu:

Real Champagne

Coconut Curry Shrimp in Spoons

Beef Filo Pastries

Green Salad

Mini Chocolate-Orange Cakes

Dark chocolate cake with milk chocolate icing and white chocolate shavings

Coconut Curry Shrimp in Spoons:

10 large raw shrimps, peeled and tails left on

1tbs of onion chopped very finely

1tsp finely chopped fresh ginger.

1/2tsp very finely chopped garlic

Pinch of ground coriander

Pinch of turmeric

1tbs olive oil

2 fl oz coconut milk

Salt and black pepper to taste

10 Chinese or soup spoons

Method:

1. With a sharp knife, slice through the back of each shrimp and pull out the 'vein'.

2. Place shrimps in a bowl with onion, ginger, garlic, coriander, turmeric and olive oil. Mix well and leave to marinate in the fridge for a few hours.

3. Remove shrimp from the marinade and set aside.

4. Place the marinade in a pan over low heat, cook gently for 5 minutes, then add coconut milk and salt and pepper to taste.

5. Bring to a boil, add the shrimp, turn the heat down and simmer for a few minutes until the shrimps turn pink.

6. Arrange one shrimp in each spoon, drizzle a little of the sauce over to coat, place on a platter and serve immediately.

Beef Filo Pastries:

1tbs olive oil

4oz beef fillet

2tsps light soy sauce

2tsp lime juice
