Walters to fight this month
Jamaica's Nicholas Walters, the World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin featherweight champion, will take on Mexican Argel Salinas on February 26 in Panama in what is expected to be one of his toughest fights.
Walters, a 24-year-old who has a 17-0 professional record, is now rated at No. 6 in the world in his weight class by the WBA. He must win this battle to maintain his climb to the top of the division.
In his last fight, which was a title defence in Colon City, Panama, last December, he scored a ninth round technical knockout victory over Gonzalo Munguia, which helped to move him up the world ratings to No. 7.
However, in the most recent ratings, the former No. 2 challenger, Johnny Gonzales, was removed and Walters therefore got an automatic elevation to the No. 6 slot.
The 25-year-old Mexican, who has a 14-8 record with seven knockouts, is the World Boxing Council Youth Inter-continental champion, a title he won recently by stopping Edgar Riovalle in two rounds.
