Cavalier want nothing but victory over Barbican

Leaders and defending champions Cavalier will be treating their clash against Barbican as a must-win encounter, when they meet in today's feature game in the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Claro Super League football competition, at the Constant Spring Sports Complex.

With four rounds of matches remaining in competition, the David Laylor-coached Cavalier lead the standings with 41 points, one ahead of August Town (40), who will also face a tough away match to Mountain View United (22) at the Courtney Walsh Oval, Excelsior High School. Barbican are ninth in the standings with 21 points.

In the day's other games, Duhaney Park (12) will oppose Real Mona at Baldwin Crescent, Rockfort (28) entertain Santos (28) at Rockfort, Bull Bay (14) await Rae Town (26) at Bull Pen, and Constant Spring (16) play away to UWI (35) at UWI.

Interestingly, Cavalier and August Town are set to meet next week, a match which could decide the title race.

The University of the West Indies (UWI), whose title ambitions suffered a setback last week after their 1-1 draw with bottom-place Duhaney Park, are third in the standings on 35 points.

Laylor said his players are aware of their opponents because they had to fight really hard to eke out a 1-0 victory in their previous encounter.

"Our aim is to win, but we know that it is going to be a very hard game for us," said Cavalier's Laylor. "We know that Barbican is a fairly good team and so we are not going to take them for granted because they might spring a surprise on us," he said.

"We have nothing to lose, but they are trying to get to the Premier League and so we definitely know that they are going to come at us, and so we are going to try and frustrate them as much as possible and, hopefully, we'll get a couple of goals and the victory."
