Boys' Town clip Village 1-0

Boys' Town scored an important win on the road yesterday afternoon when they clipped Village United 1-0 in their Digicel Premier League (DPL) game at the Elletson Wakeland Youth Centre in Falmouth.

In a game that would have probably annoyed the purists because of the vast number of technical flaws, the Andrew Price-coached Boys' Town got the all-important goal early in the second half through Anthony Bennett.

"It was a tale of two halves for us. We struggled in the first half against the wind and in the second half we used it well," said Price. Once we got the goal, we consolidated and held on for all three points ... getting three points on the road is always good so this is mission accomplished for us."

In the first half, Village started out looking quite ominous, putting serious pressure on the Boys' Town defence. However, faulty finishing, especially from the burly Mouracio Gordon kept them off the scoresheet.

Move up

By virtue of yesterday's result, the Boys' Town team, which started the day in fourth position on 45 points, moved up to 49 points while Village United, which started in ninth place on 30 points, stayed put in the lower half of the standings.

"I thought we played an excellent first half but we just did not put away our chances," said Village United's Brazilian coach Nedir Dos Santos. "We then gave up a soft goal early in the second half and just could not get back into the game."

Village United created back-to-back chances inside the first three minutes. First, Shavar Campbell got away before the goal but stumbled over the ball. Second, Gordon pounced on a cross from Troy Smith but nodded over the crossbar.

Fifth minute

In the fifth minute, Village squandered the easiest of chance when he broke free on the goalkeeper but instead of picking his spot, he fired powerfully over the crossbar.

Boys' Town's best chance of the half came in the 38th minute when Michael Campbell dribbled to the edge of the penalty area but fired straight at the goalkeeper. The half ended 0-0.

The second half started with Boys' Town pressing forward and they were rewarded in the 49th minute. Bennett broke free on the right side and cracked a savage shot, which flew into the back of the net, making the score 1-0.

In the dying moments of the game, Boys' Town dropped anchor, launching very few attacks while defending stoutly at the back. When the final whistle came, they were clearly in control of the action.
