Eight-year-old's body found floating in river

The body of an eight-year-old boy, who went missing last Friday has been found floating in a river in San Fernando, east of here, reviving memories of the murder and disappearance of several children in recent years.

Police confirmed that the body of Daniel Guerra was found on Sunday night still clad in the clothes he was wearing when he left his home in Gasparillo. The body was in a state of early decomposition and a black bag was found close by.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitzroy Frederick said it was too early to say how the boy died.

Guerra went missing last Friday after walking to a nearby parlour to buy two energy drinks.

"This is a heinous crime in which an innocent child has died ... . It is the kind of crime that deserves maximum punishment," said foreign affairs minister and parliamentary representative, Surujrattan Rambachan
