Williams nets in RSL win

Andy Williams netted an injury-time free kick in an emphatic Real Salt Lake (RSL) 4-1 victory over Columbus Crew in the CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Real became the first team from Major League Soccer to reach the semi-finals of this season's competition, when Williams followed up, after Javier Morales set up the first goal and scored two of his own.

Williams used his years of experience to expertly curl his free kick from 25 yards out to complete the triumph in the fifth minute of added time, for an emphatic finish.

Morales fed Alvaro Saborio in the 23rd minute for him to open the scoring, and then added his pair in the 36th and 77th to send RSL through to face the winner between Olimpia of Honduras and Saprissa of Costa Rica.

Andres Mendoza pulled Columbus within 2-1 and a goal of advancing in the 49th minute, but RSL prevailed to extend their unbeaten streak to 34 matches at Rio Tinto.

Jamaica-born forward Jeff Cunningham made his first start since rejoining Columbus this year, and tried to test RSL's defence in the ninth minute, but Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando was quick off his line to defuse the danger of a long ball played behind the back line.
