Cavalier regain lead

Defending champions Cavalier swiftly regained the lead in the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Claro Super League competition, with an impressive 4-0 victory over Santos yesterday at Collie Smith Drive.

This was facilitated by August Town's unexpected 1-1 draw against bottom-of-the-table Real Mona (16 points).

With one round of matches remaining, Cavalier and August Town have the same number of points, 49, but the former hold a two-goal advantage over August Town.

Final round

Next week's final round of matches will decide the champions. Cavalier will play away to fifth-place Rae Town, while August Town will host 11th-place Barbican.

At Collie Smith Drive, Richard Williams (12th), Donovan Bernard (37th), Jermaine Grey (67th) and Fabian Nethersole (80th) were the goal scorers for the David Laylor-coached Cavalier.

At Buttercup Park, Chad Bennett gave Real Mona the lead in the 53rd minute, but Gee Daley equalised for August Town in the 73rd.

Third-place University of the West Indies (41), led by a brace from Anthony Grant (20th, 45th) and one goal by Devon Smith (15th), beat Rockfort (32) 3-1. Peter Fowlin netted the consolation goal for Rockfort in the 70th minute.

Mountain View United (25) registered a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Rae Town (26). Ricardo Reid (35th), Akeem Cohen (40th) and Troyland Williams (76th) were the goalscorers for Mountain View, while Mario McDonald scored for Rae Town in the 17th minute.

Constant Spring (23), led by Oniel McDonald's 77th-minute goal, edged Bull Bay (17) 1-0. Duhaney Park (19) also recorded a 1-0 win over Barbican, with Leonardo Gooden scoring at the 82nd minute.
