D-Day for August Town, Cavalier

All eyes will be fixed on leaders and defending champions Cavalier and second-place August Town, as they seek to capture the 2011 Claro Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League title on today's final day of the competition.

The David Laylor-coached Cavalier and August Town have the same number of points, 49, but the former hold a two-goal advantage over August Town.

Interestingly, Cavalier lost the lead in a 2-0 loss to August Town a fortnight ago, but regained it the following week with a 4-0 thrashing of Santos.

They will face a tricky contest away to Rae Town at Breezy Castle.

August Town, in the meantime, were surprised 1-1 in a draw with bottom-of-the-table Real Mona, which have 17 points.

August Town are expected to have somewhat of an easier encounter when they host ninth-place Barbican (22) at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Bowl.

"This is a final for us," said Laylor. "But above and beyond that it will be how many goals that we can score against this team because I think that this is going to boil down to goal difference."

Laylor noted that they expect a tough battle from Rae Town, but they expect to win.

"We are not expecting any favours from them as I know that there is some amount of rivalry between us and them because we were the ones who stopped them from winning the competition last year," Laylor explained.

He added: "We are very confident going into this game, but we are not going to take them lightly because I am expecting a very tough game from this team."

As many goals as possible

Cavalier will rest their hopes in the hands of the competition's second leading scorer, Fabian Nethersole, who has netted 17 goals this season, along with strike partner Jermaine Allen, midfielders Horace Sharpe, Donovan Alvaranga and Kirk Fletcher.

August Town's coach Michael 'Blacka Mikes' McIntosh said his team will be going all out to score as many goals as possible.

"The plan is to get as many goals as we can get because if we don't get it right then there is no tomorrow after tomorrow," said McIntosh.

"We are playing another team that is in need of three points, but I know my team will be in a better mindset because of what transpired last week against Real Mona."

McIntosh added: "I am very confident that we can still get the job done and I believe that we work better with our backs against the wall."

Striker Ricardo Monroe, who has netted eight goals in this competition, along with Gee Daley, Aphas Bernard and Nicholas Smith, will lead August Town's charge for a victory.

The winners of the competition will advance to the Jamaica Football Federation Confederation four-team play-offs, from which two teams gain promotion to the Premier League.

At the other end of the table, Bull Bay (17) will oppose 10th-place Duhaney Park (19) at Baldwin Crescent and a defeat for either team could see them being relegated from the competition.

Inn other games, Real Mona, who are also facing relegation, will play away to Santos (29) at the Bell-Chung Stadium; third-place UWI (41) will tackle Mountain View United (28) at the Courtney Walsh Oval, Excelsior High School; while Rockfort (32) will play away to Constant Spring (23) at the Constant Sports Complex.
