THE EDITOR, Sir: MP Everald Warmington has distinguished himself as a loud, brash and irreverent individual. Time and again, he has got away with unseemly behaviour.

This time around, the PM/JLP must take a firm stand to teach Mr Warmington a harsh and long-overdue lesson. Such a move is necessary to restore the damage that has been done to the relationship between the media and the JLP as a result of Mr Warmington's conduct.

Moreover, replacing Mr Warmington with another candidate in the upcoming by-election will send a clear signal that the JLP puts principle over politics. Mr Warmington's apologising to the media for his conduct will not suffice, and if Mr Warmington makes a public apology but does not step down, this will be seen as a fake apology that is politically motivated and will further damage the image of the party.

Ideally, Mr Warmington needs to publicly apologise to the media as well as not run in the upcoming by-election. If even temporarily, Mr Warmington needs to step away from active politics so that he can reflect on his past behaviour and, at some future point, if he so desires, make an attempt to return.

Whether he stays or goes, I would urge Mr Warmington to seek anger-management counselling as soon as possible.

I am, etc.,
